Deepa Shankar

Deepa Shankar holds 17 years of Human Resources experience including holding roles in diversity and inclusion and organizational development. She sees herself as a catalyst in creating an inclusive culture. Over the last 10 years, Deepa has extensively worked to build awareness, educate, and define policies around sexual harassment in the workplace. She is a member of ‘The Collective,’ a group of women working towards creating a safe work culture for women and men in advertising, digital, and design agencies in India.

In March 2019, Deepa published her first book Voices of Inclusion which explores topics of bias, inequality, and inclusion through a unique collection of Haiku, Haibun, and illustrations. In 2016, she was recognized as part of a group of ‘Women Achievers in the Pharma Industry’ during the 50th OPPI AGM in Mumbai, India, with a feature in their book “The Colour of White.”

Previously, Deepa was the Head of Human Resources for Bristol Myers-Squibb India Pvt. Ltd., Lead for Organizational Development & Initiatives at Firstsource Solutions, and HR Business Partner at CEAT Ltd and Zensar Technologies. She is currently an independent diversity and inclusion consultant. Deepa works with organizations and speaks at forums to educate and share her perspectives on inclusion. She holds a Master’s degree in Human Resources from Pune University, India; is a Certified Diversity Executive (CDE) by The Society for Diversity Certification, Indianapolis; and a Hogan Certified Coach (HCC) from Hogan Assessments System. 

Deepa is an avid reader, loves to travel, enjoys movies and music of the yesteryears, and enthusiastically teaches English and learns French. She associates with causes for the environment and women’s empowerment. She volunteers as a mentor at Katalyst, an organization that liberates women from low income communities through professional education, and as a life member at Shraddhanand Mahilashram, an NGO and orphanage for girls.
